Description
QuickDirt is a powerful, yet easy to use dirt and aging application tool for 3ds max artists and 3D Studio VIZ designers. It exists in 3ds max as a combination Object Modifier and Map type that are used in concert. Its primary use is for adding dirt, rust, mud and other topology dependent texturing effects to mesh objects. The plug-in, as the name implies, works in (near) real time and offers interactive viewport feedback on the placement of the weathering. Besides its speed, another advantage of QuickDirt is that you can define different settings for different parts of the object, allowing you to control the final look.
QuickDirt also generates a B/W mask image, which can be used to mix different materials/textures. To achieve viewport interactivity and to eliminate the necessity of applying UVW coordinates, output is stored in Vertex Color structure of the mesh file. This also eliminates multiple copies of the same material if applied to more than one object. Plus, if you want to re-touch the dirt map, on the other hand, you can export it using the existing UVW coordinates of the mesh.
And new in QuickDirt v1.5, users now have the added advantage of a new "Blur" parameter within the system that dramatically enhances the look of dirt by softening and diffusing it. It is similar to Gaussian blurring operation for raster images and is effective for making the distressed sections of the material look more “natural”. As with the rest of the QuickDirt plug-in, this new feature is also designed to be lightning fast in its calculations, and only adds a few milliseconds to your renders.
Features:
Add dirt to your models without manual texture work.
Identifies edges for accurate oxidation and discoloration.
Quickly adds imperfections to your objects to add realism.
Handles dirt, rust, mud and other topology dependant texturing.
