Because Daniel is a World Class Designer in the Entertainment and Advertising Area of Creativity, his work is spot on, in the real world applications of Software like Photoshop and After Effects.
Unlike most of the other instructors who teach, using tired old examples of irrelevant material, giving the student the feelings of, what does this have to do with my direction using these programs or in this industry? Daniel starts from the beginning in his lesions with relevant material and links his experience to all of the lesions. So instead of learning a program from someone who never got out of the classroom we get a real master showing real applicable techniques, disseminated in a way that is fun and challenging. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson, so it all comes together in a way that allows the student to take the material once finished and blend the information to their own specific applications in Art, Design, Commercial or Avant Gard projects.
It’s done the way it should be done, Clearly, Creatively and most of all using real tutorials from his vast library of experience.

Very nice book. 4 stars is very fair for it (not less, not more)

A bit much reminds Scott Kelby’s books "Down and dirty tricks". Only this book is in color and more stylish. Would also just recommend to everybody who wanna make advertising stuff.

Very good for collection
Photoshop CS2 for Advertising and Marketing: ReviewRating: 1

I don’t get this book. If this is supposed to be work from an entertainment industry insider, then there is a lot of bad movie posters out there. When you shell out good money for a book, you want to be educated and, especially in this genre, be astounded with great work. Sadly this book lacks on both fronts.

The book covers different forms of advertising such as anime, magazine ads, music promo, billboards and movie posters. Each really are entertainment advertising media, but let’s face it, anime is a style of art, magazine ads could easily be for cars - same for billboards. I have seen posters used for many forms of advertising. And CD work? It would be more telling if I saw DVD covers being produced in this book.

I get the feeling that its all over the place and as a result, the outcome is scattered, not indepth and gave me no new insights into new ways to use Photoshop. talking about paths with the pen tool really belongs in a self education or overview book of Photoshop. This book should have said, hey, we used Photoshop to create these great promo’s and talked more about what does and doesn’t work from a marketing point of view. That would have been more interesting and informative.

Wow . . . what a great textbook. I say textbook because it is so insightful and helpful that I often refer to it.

Only five projects are included (with files on cd) but each project is so packed with industry insights and professional advice that I feel the book paid for itself after the first exercise.

A worthwhile purchase if you are looking for industry insights from a true professional or exercises that come with full, detailed explanations with an eye toward the professional industry.

Absolutely first-rate Photoshop book!Rating: 5

Daniel O’Sorenson has shared his extensive skill and expertise in communications graphics in a self-less fashion, in a way that educates and informs in clear cut terms. This book represents not only a brilliant short course on some excellent photoshop techniques, but it also provides insights and advice on the mechanics of communicating through presentation graphics in advertising and marketing. He also gives us the benefit of years of experience of managing client expectations and "selling" creative work, often tricky and uncomfortable areas for graphic artists, and even account handlers to that matter! This book is simply superb value to anyone who wants to use Photoshop vocationally.

There are quite a few Photoshop books that offer step-by-step (cookbook) techniques, but Sorenson’s text is at the top of my list. He offers real-world techniques and projects along with insight about how entertainment advertising really works.

If you’ve ever wanted to know "why" as well as "how", PSCS2 for Ad and Marketing is the way to go.

And you have a real project to complete, this is the book to grab from the shelf!

Professor Sorenson’s book is engagingly written. This would be an excellent textbook for college advertising design programs. There are no "cheap tricks" here (no flashy, tacky techniques); just a solid, sequential working method for Photoshop that actually works! Sorenson’s examples and mini-tutorials are spot on. As a kind of bonus, the reader will also gain an understanding of entertainment marketing. I’m in a position to know; I run an entertainment advertising agency.
Good but not really what I expectedRating: 4

I bought this book thinking that it was going to contain like more tutorials and more expalnation about how you could use photoshop for advertising, it of coarse covers how you might advertise a magazine a CD cover etc.. but at least for me didn’t help me that much as I expected, maybe I had great expectations of this book.

A good thing is that in includes a CD with the images he used for the examples in the book so you can experiment with them, I gotta say it is kind of long for reading but that is not a problem for many people.

If you are a experimented designer, or a photoshop guru this may work for you, but if you are an itermediate or amateur in photoshop, you should consider another option.
The best Photoshop book I own.Rating: 5

I’m pretty well-versed in graphical software (though by no means a guru), and I’ve had my fair share of Photoshop books. This one is, by far, my favorite, and for a few reasons. Firstly, and probably most importantly, is the workflow Sorenson delineates; his "non-destructive" methods yield the desired results in terms of appearance, but allow you to make changes easily and quickly should the need arise. Secondly, Sorenson’s writing is easy to follow and concise, and it’s obvious that he knows Photoshop extremely well (including the CS2-specific particulars). Finally, the nature of the projects in this book are more useful and, dare I say, professional than those in many other Photoshop books. The results look like real, finished pieces of design, and have fairly obvious real-world applications. In short, a lot of Photoshop books will teach you gimmicks (Kelby’s "Down and Dirty" series comes to mind), but this book demonstrates how to craft a solid answer to a design problem. I’d say it’s useful for almost anyone, from beginners in CS2 to those working in the field of design.

I have several books on Photoshop CS2. This is by far the best I have. I’m not a newbie to Photoshop but I’m on the low rung of intermediates. Sorenson knows his stuff and is not only a Photoshop guru, he can write clearly and precisely. His tutorials are practical and I was able to use some of his pointers almost immediately on some real work I was doing. This book is on the top of my stack of digital graphics books and it’s pretty dog eared now. I am waiting for another Sorenson book.

I love the writing style of this book, easy to follow and to understand. The book is richly illustrated and the overall look and feel of the book is very inspiring.
I also enjoyed the modular structure of the chapters of the book. It allowed me to read and learn in a non-linear way.

A great book! Packed with real-life tips and techniques. Lots of advice that goes beyond the usual Photoshop tutorial-type books: How to approach, plan and deliver a successful image-composition or design project.

I highly recommend this book!
